San Remo Estates Homes for Sale – Sarasota, Florida 34239

San Remo Estates is one of the first developments set in the high-end West of the Trail neighborhoods south of downtown Sarasota. Its acreage was platted during the short-lived 1920s Florida land boom and was originally set for a total of 170 lots within eight blocks.

The ensuing real estate collapse in that decade, however, derailed San Remo’s initial development, and construction of Sarasota homes for sale gained traction in this property only during the early 1950s. Site improvements were then undertaken in the property including the filling in of its marshy areas and the construction of a large boat basin as the community’s centerpiece.

Boaters’ Haven

San Remo, which is named after a popular resort town in the northern coast of Italy, is vastly trimmed today from its original plats and is now comprised of just 67 homes. Three internal streets are within its perimeter—San Remo Terrace, Tangier Terrace and Tangier Way—all circumferential to the community’s boat basin.

Most of the home sites are on this basin, while about a quarter of the community’s lots are located off Sarasota Bay. Private boat docks are standard in all these waterfront properties. Fourteen of the residences in San Remo are located inland. But even as these homes don’t have direct access to Sarasota Bay, their residents enjoy a private, gated boat dock to share.

Endearing Homes

The homes for sale in San Remo represent the many architectural styles seen in the Sarasota real estate market since this community’s development picked up pace in the 1950s. One of the standouts in this community is a home rendition by Victor Lundy, one of the noted exponent of the Sarasota school of architecture. Many of San Remo’s original ranch-style homes remain, but over a dozen of these have been demolished to give way to opulent mansions.

Prized finds amongst San Remo homes for sale are well-maintained builds during the 1950s and 1960s which could be priced in the $600s‒$700s range. These sales listings typically feature floor areas of between 2,130 and 2,650 square feet designed with three to four bedrooms.

Stylish San Remo residences of more recent vintage and larger square footages command million-dollar prices. The sellers’ quotes can hit close to $5 million for homes of recent construction with floor plans ranging from 5,200 square feet up to about 6,700 square feet featuring four to five bedrooms.

Offshore and Onshore Delights

San Remo Estates represents the quintessential home choice of yachtsmen, with its deep-water basin over 200 feet wide and with 95 feet of waterfront seawall. This protected harbor, moreover is just off the Intracoastal Waterway and provides easy access to Big Pass onwards to the Gulf of Mexico waters.

Overland, the residents of this community are just minutes away from the points of interest north in the Sarasota downtown unlocked by the nearby Tamiami Trail. Also just north of the community is Siesta Drive providing convenient access to the beaches of Siesta Key as well as to the nearby commercial area of Westfield Siesta Key.

Friendliness amongst San Remo residents also helps draw prospective buyers of Sarasota homes for sale to this community. Its cordial atmosphere stems from the fact that a majority of the homeowners are permanent residents. San Remo also has a strong homeowners’ association actively engaged not only in neighborhood activities, but also gets involved in affairs of the broader Sarasota community.
