Osprey School Guards Crown as Top Florida High

SARASOTA, FLORIDA, November 2nd, 2016 – Pursuit of excellence continues this school year for Pine View High School in Osprey after regaining its top 10 national ranking and leader of the pack in Florida, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report.

Pine View, certainly one of the top draws for Sarasota homes for sale in Osprey, rose nationally in 2016 to seventh from 24th place in the 2015 U.S. News compilation. Previously, this school for gifted children was rated sixth nationally in 2007, 2013, and 2014.

The basis of the 2016 ranking is a three-stage evaluation starting with an analysis on student performance results on state-mandated test, such as the Florida Standard Assessment exams. The rating also considered how the schools performed on educating students from low-income households and racial minorities. Likewise considered was how well the schools prepared their students for college. An evaluation of the students’ participation and performance on international baccalaureate and advanced placement exams finalized the rankings.

High ACT Scores and New Programs

Going by these measures, Pine View indeed looks geared up to retain or further improve its top 10 rating. At the start of the school year in August, the school’s principal, Dr. Stephen Covert, disclosed that Pine View’s ACT scores released recently continued to trend upwards.

Dr. Covert, stressing the significance of the recent results, said ACT is a national standard on college readiness that opens student entry into the most prestigious and selective universities and colleges around the world. In addition, the school continues to dedicate itself to social responsibility as part of molding its students’ mindset towards making a difference in the world.

As another platform for excellence, the Pine View principal noted that the school launched this year a new course—the AP Capstone Seminar. It comes as a two-course series enabling students to learn and master research skills in a study area at the college level. The school has also introduced a new engineering studies program and a robotics curriculum. Called “Project Lead the Way,” this series of Pine View courses leads to an industry certification.
