Sarasota Waterfront Makes a Wave with it’s Well-preserved Bay

SARASOTA, FLORIDA, July, 30, 2013 – Joint efforts to protect and preserve the estuarine environment of Sarasota paid off handsomely, Sarasota Bay Real Estate reports, noting the city’s inclusion in the top 10 great waterfronts to visit across North America. This listing compiled by USA Today is among the “best of” features that the publication regularly comes out for a variety of tourism-related topics in its travel section.

According to USA Today, Sarasota “enjoys close proximity to 40 miles of white-sand beaches lining the barrier islands just off shore.” The publication in particular cited Bayfront Park and Marina as a popular hub for walking, biking, canoeing or kayaking with views of the city’s skyline and Sarasota Bay. Two other Florida cities—Fort Lauderdale and Miami—were included in the top 10 list which also featured Baltimore, MD, and Vancouver, British Columbia.

Strong conservation initiatives

Sarasota Bay

This recent accolade on the Sarasota waterfront manifests the positive results of the city’s comprehensive conservation and management plan for Sarasota Bay, as well as the significant contributions from the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program (SBEP). An intergovernmental body, the SBEP not only includes representatives from Sarasota and Manatee counties, the cities of Sarasota and Bradenton, and the town of Longboat Key. It also involves the Southwest Florida Water Management District, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. SBEP is one of the 28 national estuary programs in the U.S.

SBEP’s initiatives focused on Sarasota Bay include water quality improvement, wildlife habitat propagation, and enhancing the area’s natural environment for public use and enjoyment. Its coverage extends beyond the 56-mile long coastal lagoon which comprises of one large segment of Sarasota Bay (Big Sarasota Bay) and its smaller embayments (Palma Sola Bay in the north, and Roberts Bay, Little Sarasota Bay, and Blackburn Bay to the south).

The agency’s scope also covers several creeks and streams that meander from the region’s watershed area and flow into the bay. These primary tributaries include Bowlees Creek, Palma Sola Creek, Phillippi Creek, Catfish Creek, North Creek, South Creek, Whitaker Bayou, and Hudson Bayou. Notably, many prime communities are located around or near these waterways.

A boost for Sarasota bayfront condos for sale

Sarasota Bay

Sarasota Bay Real Estate observes that the USA citation on the city’s waterfront allure is quite apropos to the brisk market activity for residential properties in such a locality. At the Condo on the Bay located at the Boulevard of the Arts near the Sarasota downtown, several units are currently n the pending sales list, the full service realty firm says.

There’s a new listing, it adds, for a two-bedroom unit with a floor area of 1,729 square feet and an asking price in the low $500s.

There’s appreciable interest in this condominium not just because of its superb location close to Sarasota Bay.  Built in 1982, Condo on the Bay is one of the well-established high-rise neighborhoods of Sarasota. With a 24-hour security, the condominium has swimming pools and a community center with a catering kitchen.  The complex likewise features deep-water boat docks and a fishing pier, showcasing the waterfront lifestyle which Sarasota flaunts as among North America’s best.
