Venice High Banners Superior Sarasota Schools

SARASOTA, FLORIDA, October 21st, 2013 – Access to superior schools is coming on its own as a magnet for prospective home buyers in Venice, Sarasota Bay Real Estate reported. This source of strength for the residential market in the Southwest Florida city has been reaffirmed in the recent completion of the reconstruction of Venice High School, the full service realty firm said.

The project, programmed for $91 million including equipment and furniture, was started in 2011 and was carried out in several stages. The early additions included a cafeteria and a three-story main classroom building. The project’s tail-end includes a new two-story administration building and a media center completed in time for the school year’s opening this August. A new gymnasium, brick paver walkways, and upgraded landscaping also form part of the project.

New arts hub

With the completion of the project, the high school also becomes home to the Venice Performing Arts Center, a joint venture of the city and the school district. The city government is contributing half of the $15-million cost of the new facility in order to upgrade the school’s auditorium to a full-service community performance hall.

The auditorium is designed with 1,100-seating capacity. Likewise housed in the 51,000-square-foot center are rooms for drama, band, chorus and orchestra, in addition to a piano lab. Besides providing a world-class venue for performances to Venice High students, the center will also serve as the new headquarters of the Venice Concert Band, the Venice Symphony Orchestra, and the Exsultate! choral group.

Excellent Sarasota school alternatives

Venice High School, Sarasota Bay Real Estate noted, is among the top public schools in the region, with its 8-out-of-10 rating. Neighboring schools in Sarasota County, including the elementary levels, are superior as well, the realty company added.

A report from the Florida Department of Education released this July showed that 90% of elementary and middle schools in the county’s school district received an A or B grades for the 2012-2013 school year. An A grade was maintained in the entire Sarasota County School District which now counts as one of only five of the state’s 67 school districts with such a rating.

Pine View School for the Gifted in Osprey just a short distance north of Venice High is another outstanding local school. Pine View is the only school in Florida with a full-time program from elementary to high school for intellectually gifted students.

Sampling a nearby residential community

Home searches wanting to be near such schools can have some enticing options at the community of Venice Gulf View which at the same time offers proximity to the local beach attractions. The current MLS of available Sarasota homes for sale has several choices which start in a one-bedroom bungalow with a floor area of 1,500-plus square feet and priced in the high $200s.  For a growing family, a more spacious alternative in a three-bedroom home having a floor plan of about 2,300 square feet can look attractive at its starting price in the high $600s.
