Whitaker Bayou Welcomes New Neighborhood: The Strand


SARASOTA, FLORIDA, February 7th 2017 – Neighborhoods around Whitaker Bayou off North Tamiami Trail near the Museum Area will soon have a new addition. Reservations are now being taken for residences at The Strand, a new waterfront condominium planned for a total of 156 new units added to the inventory of Sarasota condos for sale.

The community is programmed for three four-story buildings which will rise in a site of nearly 9.5 acres where the old Whitaker Bayou Yacht Club was formerly located. A project of Atlanta-based Jebco Ventures, The Strand will be developed in two phases starting with 76 waterfront condos followed by 40 units with garden/pool views.

Pricing for the standard units start in the low $500s, while starting quotes for boutique units are in the low $600s. A $10,000 credit for closing costs is being offered for the first 40 reservations.

The three condominium buildings will be built in a coastal contemporary style designed by the award-winning architect, Gary Hoyt. The Strand’s amenities include a resort-style swimming pool, fitness center, boardwalk, a paddleboard/kayak launch, and a dog park.

The Sarasota City Commissioners approved the project in July last year. Prior to this approval, it has won the endorsement of community leaders living in the neighborhoods near Whitaker Bayou as well.

This warm reception on The Strand contrasts sharply with the neighborhoods vehement opposition on previous development plans in its site involving high-rise condos and larger boathouses. Local leaders warmed up to this project following Jebco’s close interaction with the community. The developer assured that tree removal will be kept at a minimum and any commercial elements on the North Trail won’t disrupt the lives of local residents.

Wonderful Living by the Bayou

The neighborhoods around Whitaker Bayou have good reason to be quite protective of their locality. The bayou, for one, is a beautiful deep saltwater canal allowing quick access to Sarasota Bay.  Among the prized properties in this area are the million-dollar Sarasota homes for sale at the gated Tocobaga Bay and at Whitakers Landing in the Tahiti Park area.

At Tocobaga Bay, there’s a new home under construction offered at close to $6.2 million, featuring a floor plan of nearly 6,000 square feet designed with five bedrooms. In Whitakers Landing, there’s a new listing for a five-bedroom estate home with a floor area of over 5,300 square feet and asking price approaching $1.3 million.

Some rare listings are worth the wait too at Sylvan Shores just off north of Whitakers Bayou. Some of the charming inland properties in this neighborhood could be listed from around the $200s, featuring floor plans of about 1,000 square feet designed with two bedrooms.

Choice waterfront Sarasota homes for sale in Sylvan Shores are typically offered at price quotes approaching the $700s. At this price range, one recent sales in this neighborhood is a pool home with a floor area of about 1,700 square feet in a three-bedroom design.
