Cunliff’s residence, a Nantucket style, two-story home built in 1874 at 2525 Pleasant Place, is still in use, and its owner has the bragging right as living in Sarasota’s oldest home. Called the Bay View Cottage, this residence was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

An ancient tree festooned with moss in the cottage’s front yard serves as immediate notice of just how old this house is. Entering its large porch takes you far back to yesteryears with the home retaining its original oak flooring and cypress shingles.
